Vincent Goes North is a Common Culture creative program inspired by the works of Vincent Van Gogh, with the intention of developing young creative talent while simultaneously bringing more art to the Amsterdam North scene. Our journey started by selecting one of Van Gogh's works that spoke to us and writing our own poetry about it. Through workshops with fantastic photographers, scenographers and storytellers, we transformed our poems into creative photography concepts.
The poetry and photographs were exhibited at Waterlandplein in Amsterdam Noord, later on digital screens across the city of Amsterdam, and culminating in a final exhibition during Museumnacht at the Van Gogh museum. In each exhibition, a QR code was included to the Common Culture podcast where we recorded our poems and discussed the inspiration behind them.
The piece I chose by Van Gogh was "Portrait with a Felt Hat", which inspired mind wanderings about particles, matter, and how existence expands beyond our human boundaries.
