Artist Statement
I’m a Brazilian-born multidisciplinary artist currently based in Amsterdam. My practice mainly consists of mixed-media installations, but also explores mediums such as video, photography, illustration and community-engaged projects. I find myself drawn to materials such as found objects, archives, melted glue, foam sculptures, and mirror tiles.
My work explores themes like individual vs collective roles, personal identity and freedom of self-expression, embracing deep human vulnerability, cultural reflection and environmental consciousness. I'm driven by understanding how we navigate relationships to each other as people, how we relate to ourselves, how we handle the burden of existentialism, and how we deal with our inner worlds (or what do they looks like). Through my practice, I investigate how we can understand each other better, be better, create better relationships and improve our worlds (internal and external). Additionally, I'm interested in what systems we've created for ourselves (social, systemic, political), how we can question or challenge them, and also improve them.
I often draw from my personal experiences growing up in Brazil and living as a foreigner in Europe. Some of my works merge nature, personal roots, and sensory memories, while other pieces engage with collective action, sustainability, and social resistance. By blending individual narratives with broader social and ecological concerns, my honest and confrontational art practice fosters a sense of shared humanity. My work invites viewers to find their own voice, to feel comfortable in self-expression, to confront deep vulnerability and to question their relationship with the world around them (to nature, to each other and to ourselves).
